RSPCA Queensland has Domestic Hospitals located in Wacol, Dakabin, and Toowoomba, as well as clinics in Noosa and Cairns providing care to over 17,000 domestic animals every year.
About the role
The Wacol Domestic Hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This role will best suit those who thrive in a fast-paced environment with a varied case load. Domestic patients are admitted to the hospital via members of the public, RSPCA animal ambulances, Community Outreach program, Inspectorate and internal transfers from regional shelters. Your role will require you to work as part of a dynamic team within the veterinary clinic and surgery.
- Work as part of a dedicated team of people committed to animal welfare.
- Provide both medical and surgical nursing care to animals in the care of RSPCA Qld.
- Perform routine laboratory and pathology tests.
- Assist Veterinarians in handling and treating of animals.
- Administer routine veterinary treatments and medications.
- Triage incoming animals.
- Assist with basic Veterinary Reception duties such as data entry, booking appointments and maintaining up to date and accurate patient records.
- Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the hospital is always maintained.
- Attend RSPCA events including Community activation days and fundraising days.
Who are we looking for?
- A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (or recognised overseas equivalent).
- Previous surgical nursing, emergency, and critical care experience with companion animals.
- Required 3+ years' experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work well & multi-task under pressure in a high-volume, busy hospital environment.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written).
- Excellent relationship building skills within your team and across departments.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks within a busy work schedule.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA Qld.
- Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos.
This is a part-time position, working 24hrs minimum per week, based at our Wacol Animal Care Campus with opportunities to work across other RSPCA Queensland shelters as the need arises. This position will involve a mix of day and evening shifts with regular weekend work required. Remuneration is as per the RSPCA Qld Enterprise Agreement for Veterinary Staff (Certificate IV qualified or equivalent) with a starting pay rate of $28.57 per hour plus superannuation.
