The Role:
Are you an experienced Educator, looking to embark on your new adventure focusing on providing support Youth At Risk? If so, we have an exciting opportunity within Communicare’s Alternative Education Program for a very passionate Educator to come on board as a Mentor4U Youth Mentor.
Mentor4U is funded by the Department of Education and helps break down barriers for severely at-risk secondary school aged students, who experience a range of complex issues, impacting their ability to attend mainstream school. When youth are disengaged from school for significant periods of time, Mentor4U can help them navigate any challenges they may be facing and get them back on track to reach their education and personal goals.
Mentor4U Mentors provide safe, non-judgmental support, in an environment such as a young person’s home, local library or community centre, working one on one with them to build the skills, attitude, confidence, and abilities they need to continue through to further education or employment.
As a Mentor4U Youth Mentor you will be responsible for supporting students in gaining essential life skills, through a range of external activities. You will create a supportive learning environment to help students participate in learning modules through the Certificates in General Education for Adults.
This position will be offered on a fixed term part time basis working 45.6 hours per fortnight. This role will be located in Cannington; however, daily travel to outreach locations is required.

Selection Criteria
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Tertiary Qualification in Education and/or Certificate II General Education for Adults (must hold or be willing to obtain)
- Relevant experience in working with disengaged and at-risk young people in an educational setting.
- Intermediate computer, numeracy, and literacy skills.
- Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- Intermediate communication and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate customer service skills.
- Intermediate understanding of external agencies supporting young people.
- Satisfactory Police clearance (not older than 6 months from the issue date)
- Unrestricted drivers’ licence
- Working With Children Check
- Current First Aid Certificate - Desirable but not Essential
